Link building is 90% of all the seo you need!

I’ve been trying to find a way to build links for my blog and almost every method that i found is related to spam or is not Google compliant. I’ve learnt that link building is 80% of seo (even thou I’m thinking 90%). The real proof is google bombing that shows that the big G doesn’t give a rats tail about your content. Yes… the content is important but not that important as hundreds of links to your site. I hear every day that quality content is all that matters! What is quality content? Compared to what content? Quality for whom? For kids? For adults? For women?

Lets take a general example. Beer. What is quality content to be on the front page? Is it light for women, is it root beer for kids or normal for men? Also, quality means a link to a well known beer producer or a link to an article page that says some trash about how beer is produced? Is beer better than wine? For some is for others is not. Is the most selled cell phone the best or it is the most advertised? So, spare me with quality content! The best content is the most advertised. And advertising for google is building links to your page!

Also, quality content for google not for humans.  An article full of keywords is not helpfull for humans, is for the search engines. Also this means that a good writer or a specialist in the field of astronomy will not be seen as a great writer unless he learns how to do keyword research and keyword placement on his article. That will not help anyone and thats why 13 years old kids are great authors! And “write” about global warming!

Some methods of link building:

- paid links - google doesn’t like this method. I see this as a stupid but kind of normal move from google, because you are competing with his adwords program. Google’s suggestion is to put a no-follow making the link not very valuable. Also you are penalized if G catches you. But apart from googles rules I don’t think that many people will pay 10-300$ per link. If your competitors already have thousands of links that will make a hole in your budget trying to catch them.

- forum/blog/guestbook commenting. Do I need to say that this is spam? I mean its ok commenting and putting my blogs address in my comment, but what if my site is about selling fishes and I’m commenting on Britney Spears blog?(have no idea if she has a blog ) That is not very ethical and also I’m not helping anyone with my link.

- .edu / .gov links. Big time spam. Don’t tell the government wants to link to your site or is interested in any way about your little online masterpiece. There are some exceptions.

- spam blogs. I mean building some blogs on blogger.com or wordpress.com and throw some shitty articles there along with your links. I still can’t believe that this is actually a real method. And it’s white hat seo.

- article writing. Right! I prefer paying for links on directories. How relevant is a copied/modified article on 1000 strange sites? I’m not helping anyone here. My real intention is to get some links for google.

- links exchange. Its ok for 10 links, but having 1000 links of your partners doesn’t make sense and its not practical either. Maybe in the future every website will have a link directory.

My question now “is link building spam?”. Excepting links exchange and paid links is all about unsolicited advertising (spam)?
